Eligibility: prospective students and first-year graduate student (for those who were admitted for the Spring semester)
Nomination period: 12/01/21 to 02/01/22 on a rolling basis

The one-year $7500 fellowship was designed to attract exceptional graduate students. To receive the fellowship, a student must have been fully supported by the nominating advisor or department. For recipients without a designated academic advisor, they had the freedom to rotate between labs while searching for an advisor.

Recipients were nominated by respective faculty advisor or graduate director. The nomination faculty was expected to provide a copy of the application package and a supporting statement through a google form. The duration of the fellowship is one academic year. Applications were evaluated on a rolling basis within the nomination period.

The GE Fellowship for Inclusion and Equity program was established to provide fellowships (50% GA) to outstanding graduate students with diversified backgrounds who plan to pursue doctoral degrees in the areas of advanced materials, manufacturing, and energy. The advisor or the department had to provide the other 50%. Diversity criteria include 1) marginalized groups in engineering, e.g., women, under-represented minorities, LGBTQi++, neurodiverse, etc. 2) students who has an academic background outside engineering but want to transition into engineering; 3) students who are away from academia for more than one year but want to transition into a SOE Ph.D. program.

Recipients were nominated by respective faculty advisor or graduate director and was selected by a fellowship committee. The nomination faculty was expected to fill in a google form and to provide supporting materials. The duration of the fellowship is one academic year. Applications were evaluated on a rolling basis within the nomination period.

The GE Fellowship for Excellence program was established to recognize excellence of current graduate students and to facilitate their completion of the Ph.D. program. The fellowship provides 50% of GA to outstanding graduate students who are pursuing doctoral degrees in the areas of advanced materials, manufacturing, and energy. The recipient had to secure another 50% from the department or advisor.

Students directly submitted applications to the fellowship program by filling in a google form with a personal statement and supporting materials. They were selected by a fellowship committee based on a holistic assessment of their track record and potential. The duration of the fellowship is one academic year. Awardees were announced by the end of July.
